My daughter Phoebe loves attending junior classes at Marsden Tennis Club and she looks forward to attending every week, no matter what the weather. In a few short months the tennis classes have really helped to build up her confidence and she already feels comfortable alongside the older children in the group. Although only 5 she can already play a few short rallies. The classes are fun for all the kids as Sean combines fun games alongside the more formal tennis tuition. Each week Sean tries to vary the class to ensure the children remain keen and focussed. Sean clearly loves working with children and in return Sean gets the respect of the children he is teaching.
Sean is great with my two boys (aged 3 and 5). My youngest son is very shy and his confidence has greatly improved from joining Tennis Tots. They look forward to the sessions and play ‘tennis lessons’ at home – taking turns to be ‘Sean’. Good value and a great alternative to football.
Sean Stafford has helped my son, Dan, to achieve a more consistent and reliable serve action after injury and surgery to his elbow. In the 12 months of his expert coaching, Dan has become more confident both physically and mentally and his anticipation and speed around court has improved markedly. Most of all it is what Dan thinks of Sean: “He is a friendly and approachable coach who makes the lessons fun and competitive and I have benefited from a far superior forehand as a result of a grip change, much stronger backhand and solid volleying technique. Sean has given me the confidence and ability to use my skills to best effect to achieve these results.
Sean joined the AASE program at Bolton as a 16 year old and developed his game whilst competing on a national basis. He represented Lancashire on both junior and men’s front. During the time he spent at Bolton he was a pleasure to work with and always showed a positive attitude to his training.
I then mentored him through his level 4 coaching course where he came to the sessions with great positivity and energy.
Sean has a great future ahead of him.
A friend had been recommending Sean’s Sunday Cardio tennis for quite a while. Finally I went and it’s the highlight of my week – a real treat to have fun, hit some balls and get quite tired out too with a great bunch of people. Sean makes it all go with the flow and keeps it lively and varied. He plays some good music too to keep us moving. On the strength of Sean’s cardio tennis sessions, our whole family are now getting into tennis. My partner and I have a lesson together with Sean once a week. It’s probably 35 years since I had a lesson, and I’ve learnt more these last few weeks than when I was a teenager. Sean is equally good with the kids – teaching them the technical and tactical side of the game, while playing games to make it all fun for them and their friends who play.
Sean is great with our son, patient, great at teaching in a fun and supportive way. Sean makes cardio tennis a (nearly) painless experience – the fastest healthiest hour of my week.
My son Eddie was introduced to tennis over a year ago now at the age of 8 and has thoroughly enjoyed his lessons during this time. He struggles with coordination and this has notably helped him, not just with tennis but with other activities as well, including cycling and swimming. He is also not naturally a sporty child but has embraced tennis and has not only been taught tennis skills, but also discipline, focus and respect when playing with others, as well as improving his fitness levels in the fresh air. He has also taken part in the tennis days during the summer and two junior tournaments of which he reached the semi final this year, helping him gain more confidence. Off the back of his interest in the sport and encouragement from friends both my husband and I attend cardio tennis as often as we can. I for one have not only felt the physical benefits of the class but also gained knowledge and improved (on some small level) my limited skills in tennis – which in all honesty I haven’t done since school. The class is very friendly and kept non-competitive, and I always feel like I’ve been encouraged to work to my potential. As if this wasn’t enough our youngest also attends tots tennis when he can and has a lot fun during the class. I have to say though that it truly is down to the coaches and how they interact with the children keeping them motivated and engaged. They are supportive, non-judgemental and professional at all times and Sean certainly reveals his expertise in appropriately managing all the different age groups.
I have attended the cardio tennis at Saddleworth TC and have thoroughly enjoyed it.I have met some lovely people and improved my fitness levels and really look forward to each session.I recommend anyone who is interested to come along and try it as we are a mixed group and have a really good laugh.
Since attending the tennis open day at the end of May,both my children have been attending weekly junior classes. They have loved the friendly and relaxed atmosphere that the coaches provide. We have been amazed by their progress and technical ability in such a short space of time and hope the British weather holds out for more enjoyable classes.
The Wilde Family
You are doing a great job with all the children , encouraging many who would never play tennis to pick up a racquet. We started with no coaching or children’s tennis at Marsden. We now have dozens of smiling young faces around the club. Keep up the excellent work.
Sean has coached my teenage son for the last 6 years, taking him from complete beginner to playing men’s division 1 in the Huddersfield and Calderdale leagues. He has a good rapport with him, keeping the sessions fun and informative whilst working him hard. I would recommend Sean as a coach for all ages and abilities.
Saddleworth tennis club has been very happy with the coaching programs that Sean is running. He has set up coaching programs that include tots, mini-tennis, juniors and adult cardio. He also offers individual coaching. Having worked with Sean in setting up the programs at Saddleworth and having also taken part in some of the adult cardio sessions, I can vouch for his professionalism, reliability and enthusiasm.
My children have only been attending the tots tennis sessions for a few weeks but i’m already impressed by how much they enjoy their sessions and by the way Sean and his team keep the group of young children (3-6) under control and organised whilst teaching them basic skills in a fun and effective way. Looking forward to continuing their sessions.
I think your lessons are great and are a very good price considering what’s available for children e.g. Swimming, football, rugby etc…
Elliot was a late starter in tennis and didn’t pick up a racket until he was 14.
His first coach taught him how to play tennis and instilled in him all the correct techniques required to play junior tennis. We moved to Sean when Elliot was 15 years and Sean has now been coaching Elliot over 2 years. Elliot’s tennis has improved beyond belief as he makes the transformation from junior to senior tennis. His technique improved quickly as Sean started to look into the fine detail of how to improve his game from his split step, to volleying and power step to help return the serves. Sean has also worked with Elliot on his mental strength which has contributed to helping Elliot win matches when previously it would be his Achilles heel. Elliot respects Sean and enjoys his lessons each week, which contributes to his rating improving from 8.2 to 5.2 in a short period of time. Sean is very approachable and if you are looking for a senior performance coach then I would certainly recommend Sean Stafford.
Cardio tennis has been a fantastic way to keep fit, love the group work element and being out in the fresh air. Sean’s laid back approach to the session makes it fun for all regardless of ability ( haven’t picked up a tennis racket since leaving school!) A great session with a variety of activities and a great way to meet new people. Obviously the post cardio drinks in the bar afterwards is an added bonus.
My sister and I have been going to ‘Cardio Tennis’ for the past few months. We both look forward to it each week. It is by far the only hard exercise I really enjoy doing.Sean is fantastic!! He looks like he is really enjoying the session. All of the people who attend have so much fun and we all have a good time together.
